Kaleo wanted to be with Ezri at her house since she always goes to the water to be with him. However he might have gotten a little carried away after she allowed him to use her bath to soothe his drying skin. It is not often that a mermaid could control the temperature of the water they're in, but that is not a good enough excuse for the landlocked felitaur who now has to clean up the mess.

Ahhhhhhhh, I love this! 8D
He's so cute, and blissfully unaware of his misdeed.. for now. I can tell Ezri's about to let him know just how much trouble he's in.
And yeah, that's a good point about someone like him finding it to be a novelty to be able to control the temperature of the water he occupies (aside from going near a geo-thermal/volcanic vent, underwater). But why did you say "it is not often a mermaid could control--"? Why say mermaid, there, I wonder? Would you say that, collectively, the underwater races that inhabit your world are known as "mermaids", even if they include both mermen and maids? I'd have thought it would be "merfolk" or "merpeople." Or, since you had only been referring to Kaleo, why not say "it's not often a merman could control---"?
I'm curious about the semantics of it, it's nothing to do with gender identity or anything. I've seen a lot of people referring to either underwater races such as this as "mermaids" when both genders are present, and I've seen rare cases where it seems like the person in question simply seemingly did not even know 'merman' was a term at all. I read a story once where, for the entire duration, the author referred to a merman as a mermaid; the character himself called himself that, as did the human that encountered. It was bizarre.
Of course, Sepi, I know you would not be so ill-informed! I just got to thinking about it now. Forgive my digression.
Awesome picture. I think you've been really improving a lot lately. Backgrounds, more detailed shading. Maybe, though, it's just that I got used to seeing the less-polished work you did for commissions, as people had not paid for more polish! Because, thinking back on it, I recall seeing you produce more detailed work long ago. Still, I'm sure you're improving. The sharktail in the pic above alone is fabulous. :}===<

Aw, thanks!
I decided to say mermaid because for that part I was making a comment for the species as a whole and I personally am not fond of saying merfolk to do so. I know that it makes sense logically, but I've been so used to saying mermaid for the species as a whole looong before I learned of the merfolk term.
it's alright Ame. It's a very valid thing to point out~
It is a bit of both. The cheaper commissions sell a lot more and I do not always work on more challenging ideas with my personal art.
I am very happy about how the tail came out~

I see! I kinda thought that's how it was, yes. It's actually really cool to imagine that a race or species would be defined and/or named / designated by their female side. It would be similar to if the societal norm was to say "womankind" instead of 'mankind'. As if "woman" is the whole word and to remove the 'w' and the 'o' was seen as the word becoming lesser. Maybe if that was our frame of reference, we would say "mermaids" to mean all underwater people and just say "mers" to mean just mermen, lessening that word too, haha.
Or, something like.. centaurs were actually always known as 'centauresses' and you had to say 'centaurs' to mean the males. OR if saying 'centaurs' always meant the female of the race AND the race as a whole, and if you wanted to specifically talk about a male-only group, you had to add something in like: Centaurmen. Centauns? Centauts?
There's got to be an animal-based example..
Oh, hey! Chickens and cows have this..! Aha, yes, they do! When we say "chickens", we basically always mean the female, egg-laying, white or light-brown-feathered individuals. You have to be specific to say roosters! and cows are always female, unless you say bull.. but you can include bulls in a group of cows, or even say "cows" to mean a whole group of bulls. Aha! An actual female-based grouping!
And really, if ANY group of beings was going to be known / designated by the female of the species, it WOULD be mermaids. Sirens run the show for reals, down there. (still, the idea of that story I mentioned, where the _individual_ merman was being talked about as a mermaid, that was just weird, haha)
Anyway, WORDS! WOOORRRDDDDSSS! 8D

Yeah, totally matriarchal. I was going to bring that up, but I was also trying to hit upon it being a matter of the species being identified by the female, and generalized in that sense, simply vis-a-vis identification, nomenclature and recognition by other species, regardless of systems of government and/or societal roles (but then I said they run things, so I was bringing that stuff into play anyway)
