It was my friend's birthday today, and I wanted to do something nice for her. She expressed some interest in me designing a lion character based on the king of hearts, sometimes referred to as the 'suicide king' because of the knife in his hand (that looks like he's stabbing himself with). She likes roses and thorns and skulls and things so that definitely had an influence on my design decisions.
