I prefer this kind of more realistic style as well, and it's harder to find makers for them in the UK from the small amount of research I've done.
I'm kind of leaning towards making my own at the moment too, but I'm finding the process intimidating, not to mention pricey. Your results are encouraging though, and it's great to see these pics!
