fifty yards, iron sights and predefined positions, free hand, kneeling, sitting, prone, one round I'd have a hard time calling top two spots were within about 1/16 inch of each other. judge called me on top. I don't think I should have beaten an M1 Garand but thats how it goes.
Well that's true, you have the components, barrel, ammo, operator, a dash of luck didn't hurt, There were more matches later in the day where this much older seasoned veteran came up slowly to the line leaning on his cane and asked to try someone's rifle, he had a navy hat on that I swore said 'USS Constellation' but anyway, it took him a few minutes to take a seat and chatter about remembering when the garand was all that jazz. He sent four rounds down range and asked of anyone could see if he hit the paper, someone with a spotting scope verified that with iron sights put down a 1.5 inch group at 50 yards. Yep, good shot right there.
