Limited Commission Availability!
Hi guys,
So, I'm currently trying to work my way through my stash of yarn from my hardcore tail making days. That said, I would like to open commissions to help me work through this stash. However I do not want to invest in much new yarn, therefore I would prefer to mainly utilize colors that I already have on hand. I have no issue with buying smaller quantities of colors I may be missing from your tail, especially whites and blacks. Essentially, I just don't want to make a tail that I have none of/hardly any of the colors I would need in stock at this time, like a bright orange tail or a brown tail. Otherwise I have most ranges decently covered! I especially have:
Rust orange
Lime green
Grays
̶D̶a̶r̶k̶,̶ ̶a̶l̶m̶o̶s̶t̶ ̶b̶l̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶y̶s̶
Pinks - lots of hot pink in particular
Yellow
Beige
Honey/caramel
I could do smaller tails with mixtures of purples or blues, just probably don't have enough for a large tail with a single main color
This may seem like a limited selection, but in actuality, these colors can create a vast array of highly detailed yarn tails! This is because I use a lot of blending, and have no shortage of "neighbor"-colors to create many gorgeous blends!
Please comment or Note if you are interested in a commission! If you aren't certain whether I have what I need or can get what I need to make a tail for you, don't hesitate to ask, I know it can be hard to tell sometimes just by looking at a picture unless you are super familiar with the craft itself.
I still have a vast array of guard hairs to work with, as well. : ) I hope to create some tails for you!

Ooh that sounds cool. What colors do you think of for a galaxy theme? I'm looking at the almost-black heather gray that I have because it's kind of shiny when brushed out and it's got little lighter gray bits in it, I think it would make a cool main color. Then are you thinking purples, or blues? I mean I can do both of course (though choosing one or the other to be featured most prominently might be good?), a little gray thrown in could look cool. Silver and/or black guard hairs would probably be impressive. Or maybe you are thinking something different color-wise, in which case please share! Did you have a length in mind? If you want a tail like I speculated on color-wise I could probably go up to 24 inches, which in general is as long as I suggest unless you want a cat tail anyway. Lots of canine tails I recommend between 18-22.
Both. Both is good :D (purples, blues, maybe a little red/pink? My boyfriend suggested a little green too might look nice) I like the Heather grey idea (just thinking about how this tail is going to look is getting me stoked!)
As for length, I was thinking in the 18-22 range. 24 would be pushing it for me I think.

Hmm yeah, I think I have some ideas on how I can put all of those colors together in a way that will make them all shine and be nice and cohesive. Well I'm totally down for this tail if you are.
If you're thinking about going in the middle there at like 20 inches, here's the lowdown:
20 x $6/in = $120
Guard hairs = $25 and I do recommend them for your investment, they look cool but also protect your tail
Shipping brush carabiner in US = $15
So your total would be $160 for what sounds like a totally badass tail! Does that sound good to you? Otherwise we can try to figure out something else. I'd need 50% upfront, refundable if I can't get you progress you like (happy to say that's never been a problem before though!)

(What the heckie, I thought I posted a reply!)
Yeah, I think that price tag would definitely be a little easier on my wallet, lol! Especially if I'm going to be refurbishing my fursuit head soon (I actually didn't know that was happening; I just thought I was going to send it in for some repairs). I'm totally good with medium.

The brightest orange that I have right now is really just a basic orange color, not a bright or neon orange. Definitely have the bright yellows covered, though. I think I had a hard time finding it as bright/the exact shade I wanted, too. If you are talking about the bottom left yellow, I think it's Bernat Super Value. I don't even use that brand really but it had the perfect color. If you want an orange and yellow tail I'd love to make one for you, if basic orange would work. Otherwise if you just wanted help finding the yellow for yourself the brand name show hopefully help! Pretty sure that's what it was!
Well good luck. I got mine from knitting-warehouse.com I believe or something with a name like that. They have good shipping prices within the US but don't know about international, may be a cheaper place for you to buy. Don't know if Bernat is a brand often seen in your country or not.
I would recommend 28 inches max for a tail so it doesn't drag or be too close to shoes/dirt. Thin width is suitable for most felines. So, at that length, it would be $56 for the tail itself. 25 inches is a good length too-it would be $50.
Then:
Add $10 for shipping and a brush if you live in the US
Add $15 if you want guard hairs
Are you interested in a commission? I love making feline tails.

So. Much. Yarn. =D
I noticed the box with the pink yarn looks like it might be trying to collapse. Have you thought about reinforcing it with duct tape? That's what I did with one of my son's diaper boxes for use as a diaper holder. Planning on doing the same for all my yarn.
Finally, I do have a question for you. I remember a while back you had posted a tutorial on making these tails (had attempted to myself, only made it to the tail tip before I got distracted with other projects). I was wondering if you would mind me using your technique to make and sell dolls with furry tails/body/hair. Also, if I may, possibly come to you for tips on how to do markings such as spots/stripes?

Yeah that box is a bit warped but it's keeping on lol. If I really need to I can rearrange them better, there is enough table space to put them vertically if needed. I could probably store them in something prettier than the boxes the yarn came in, but, well, free and convenient lol!
I don't think I ever posted a tutorial though other makers have. The general basis of yarn-tail making is pretty common knowledge now though (like, you can google search it), so I'd say go for it. Spots and stripes could be hard on a small surface like a doll though because on a tail it's usually all in how the bundles are arranged to create the appearance of spots and stripes--the yarn itself is not spotted or striped. So it's about layering.

Free and convenient is always a good way to go.
Huh, thought it was you who did it. Guess not. Anyways, I was planning on doing the fur for the body the same way it's done with the tails. Cutting the yarn, brushing it out, then sewing it onto the doll the same way you would the spine of the tail.
So, I'm guessing the best route to take would be to lay the fur out to test how it'd look before sewing it on?
