“Ugh, how could I be so stupid?” Marco said pacing around Star’s room. The biggest dance of his high school life, the Fall Formal, was less than two weeks away and he still didn’t have a date. “Hey, hey Marco, look,” a voice said behind him. He turned around to see his friend, Star Butterfly, poofing tiny hats on the squirrels and bunnies outside her window. “Hee hee, I put little hats on their heads.” Star’s attention span was small enough to appreciate the little things in life. In this instance, putting little hats on animals.
“Star, this is serious!” Marco said upset. “The Fall Formal’s less than two weeks away and I still can’t find the courage to ask the only girl I want to take to the dance…..Jackie Lynn Thomas.” Just saying the name of the girl he had a crush on filled Marco with a warm feeling like a lovesick puppy. “O…kay.” Star said watching him swoon over Jackie. “Star, you have to help me,” Marco said coming back to reality. “There’s no way I can talk to Jackie Lynn without throwing up. What if…yeah, what if you made me the most handsome boy in school? Then she’d have to go to the Fall Formal with me.”
“Marco? Do you think my magic is just some trick to make your life better without any hard work?” Star said looking serious, then leaning in smiling. “Cause it totally is! Let’s make you supermodel pretty!” Star jumped back and pointed her wand at Marco, ready to help his friend with his wish. The wand began to glow and fill the room with white light. “SUPER HANDSOME FACE TSUNAMI….” Star cried out, chanting the spell, when out of the corner of the eye, she saw a butterfly fly in. “Oooh, a butterfly without a tiny hat.” Her focus went to the butterfly and without knowing it, launched the spell an inch away from Marco’s face.
The spell bounced around Star’s room like a pinball, hitting everything in sight, until it bounced off her magic mirror and hit her square in the face, knocking her to the ground. “Star, oh my goodness, are you alright?” Marco said as he ran over to help her up. “I…I think so.” Star replied groggy. “Hmmm. It didn’t work. Guess I’m too adorable to be handsome.” Star gave a toothy smile as Marco chuckled to himself. “On second thought, Star, maybe I’ll just practice asking Jackie in the mirror first.” Marco said with second thoughts.
The next morning, Star woke up and got dressed as per her usual routine. She went over to her mirror to do her make up. “Why aren’t you just the cutest thing in all creation?” Star said to herself as she pinched her own cheek. However, when she pinched it, she notice it stretched and felt different. “Huh?” She said in confusion as she did it again and again. “What the what? Why is my face all stretchy?” She grabbed her whole cheek and pulled on it. Her face stretched and contorted until finally….”SCHLORP!” Star’s face came clear off, revealing another face underneath.
The face was unlike anything she had ever seen before. She had ice blue eyes, long blue hair in a ponytail with bangs and the most shocking of all…it was the handsome face of a boy. “Oh…my…stars…” she said in disbelief and horror, now in a deep voice. “I am….GORGEOUS!” She got excited as the aspect that she had gone from a beautiful girl to a handsome boy. “Wait a minute,” Star said to herself. “I need a new name to go with this face.” She kept looking in the mirror for inspiration. “Star…ley? No no, Star…ford? No no no…Star…Starfor……CODY! Oooh, I like that name. I am Cody Butterfly!” She said posing with the wand in the air. “It’s manly and feminine, just like me.”
“Star, you ready for school?” Marco said from downstairs. Cody panicked as he grabbed his Star face, now a latex mask and slipped it back on. “Wow, it was that easy?” Star said. “Hmmm. Maybe Marco can’t ask Jackie Lynn Thomas to the Fall Formal, but there’s nothing that says Cody Butterfly can’t.” She giggled to herself and went downstairs to go to school with Marco.
