Really, manipulating the elements has never been a difficult task. Fire, in particular, is just adding energy to a thing or area until it combusts, and manipulating energy is every mages' bread and butter. It's not particularly useful, but it is fun and great to show off with. Like fireworks, but with more deliberate destruction.
