The Clash of Cultures
Yes I know, it's really wierd and different of me
This is actually a piece I've done for uni.
It's a response piece to a certain piece I saw at a gallery. The piece was called "Tripasso in Wackyland." Now for those who watch really old Looney Tunes stuff, that title might sound really familiar. It was an animation piece based of the old Porky Pig short, "Porky in Wackyland". Instead of Porky though, its Picasso. And its following the dodo (who was from the original film). But while this animation is going on there's like, real life commercial footage montages going on in the background. And the piece gets really weird, with weird animations as well. It was like an psychedelic acid trip. But the actual story of it was about the clash of cultures. Which was earlier pop culture and psychedelic culture clashing with modern day, commercial culture. The clash was also symbolized through the dodo and Picasso fighting around.
So my response piece was merely based upon that, but with a twist. I also put music into this. So I have this cartoon style drawing, of anthro animals playing pure instruments. A music inspired culture that were popular around 50 years ago during the hippie movement, with a photo of a friend of mine using the DJ turntables (incase you can't tell) which depicts the commercial side. But I also made the photo real trippy, to at least give the piece a psychedelic feel to it. Lots of oil paint and hue/sat effects.
Sorry about the big read there. I just thought I needed to explain this as best as I could, to get this art's point across.
And I felt like I wanted to post this piece up here, seeming it involves anthropomorphic creatures.
