This is my latest mask head; another dragon. It's for
nephis_dragon.. sort of.
I know, it looks like crap right now but this is just the skeleton. The eyes are placeholders... I'll be doing my own resin eyes to get a 3D effect like seen here: http://qarrezel.deviantart.com/art/.....t-Eye-69664096
Built on a plastic mesh frame, beefed up with upholstery foam. The Orange/pink/white beak is Model Magic, which will later be latex or ToolDip coated for durability reasons.
It features a ridiculously sensitive moving jaw that's different from anything I've seen online before (most people put the elastics on the lips, I find this method questionable when it comes to durability). This one is done with the hinges near my jawline and with elastic straps anchored to the bottom lip and the inside of the bridge of the nose. I'll upload an inside view if anyone wants to see WTF is going on in there.
Eyes are made from pantyhose, supplied by dear old mum. I struggled a while to find something one-way that wouldn't look like ass (like mesh and windowscreen does) but that is easy to get anywhere. A lot of people opt for buckram which I'm sure is awesome, but I can't seem to find any in local stores. Pantyhose can be bought at any dollar store it seems, or I can just get my mother to give me some that she got a hole in. It's pretty good... I'm liking it a lot so far.
The head isnt so funny-shaped IRL. It just tends to curl up a bit and look funny if its not being worn-- the back of the head is made with elastic straps like my first head as I found that it provides a snug fit to allow the moving jaw to work right while also not being a pain in the ass to get on/off your head.
Still debating what to make the horns out of. I'll probably do cast latex that'll be stuffed with polyfill to avoid the sewn-horns look (which is ew) while not having to worry about smacking them on doorframes or poking out peoples' eyes.
