Dirty sketch of Banzai's family... Or what's left of it.
Tried my hardest to make it appear Banzai's parents are spirits/apparitions/whatever, but admittedly I didn't do too well of a job there. I guess it works okay. So there you have it, a bit more info on what Banzai's background is like. The parents' spirit are actually each bound to an object (the father to a sword/cleaver and the mother to a tea kettle, though I haven't had the heart to draw the objects inbetween all the clothing details) although the hows and whys are still things I need to figure out.
I'm really liking the clothing designs (Eastern, but I didn't want them to be either too Chinese or Japanese, though I reckon it still looks so obviously inspired) on the characters here, especially on Banzai. Wanted for the longest time to give her an outdoors wardrobe and I'm chuffed with this design.
Also had a lot of fun drawing the details on the clothing, although I was worried not to go too overboard with them. Especially Banzai's travel gear was something I had to halt myself from adding too many patterns. Yes that's a chest of drawers she's carrying on her back. It's just something that came to mind when I thought of what kind of baggage she would be wearing, don't ask me if it's actually practical to carry such things. Lightweight materials and strong back I suppose.
Going to add a background later. Hate it though that the bodies are drawn without any perspective whatsoever. This is however, like so many others, a casual sketch, and I'm willing to let it slide. Not much space for a background either. Hopefully I can add a little of the Sweet Autumn Taste inn somewhere just to see what it's like on the outside.
Really like the characters here, really do
