Never, EVER pick up or jump on a fursuiter without asking.
Yes, that is my spine, I am 100% serious. If you jump on me, pick me up or tackle me, it hurts like hell and you could incapacitate me for days. Don't do it.
Thank you.
EDIT: Moving to scraps because I am sick of seeing this every time I look at my FA page. Don't need any more reminders of my condition.

In my case, not really. At this stage all that can be done is manage the pain it causes (and there is a lot of pain).
It will get worse as I age and I'll eventually lose the ability to walk - at which point they may be able to help by drilling a metal rod into my spine to stabilize it. Which will cause extreme loss of mobility as well as extreme pain and require multiple surgeries.

Chiropractors often do more long term harm than good, regardless. Short term good, maybe.
Surgery is probably the only true preventative or (possible) life improvement option here, but in all likelihood it will still result in pain and greatly risks damaging mobility or at least flexibility.
I fractured a vertebra, I narrowly avoided surgery but I still have bad pain sometimes. A brace took the stress off of it, and after the year or so I wore it, my muscles there got so damn weak. Back stuff is extremely serious.
I still get a lot of muscle issues around there as a result -- it seems like it won't be quite the same, but it doesn't affect me much outside of some pain now and again, and less frequently severe pain (at which point I'll get muscle relaxers).

Yea, I'd never go to a chiropractor. They practice "chiropractic." It's considered alternative medicine. I never think that highly of most alternative medicine, though I guess if you consider parts of psychiatry/psychology to involve alternative medicine (IE counselor therapy) it has helped me, for example, manage my anxiety and other issues to SOME extent outside of just medication.
As a general rule, it's better to go to a practice that has '-iatry' in its definition, or at least '-ology'. One is the 'medical practice of' and the other is 'the science of'... Someone like an orthopedic physiatrist/physician. Typically speaking, those in an '-ology' cannot give prescriptions, and the most noticeable difference between an '-ology' and '-iatry' that an average person will see is a Psychologist vs a Psychiatrist. Both are in heavily related fields. Psychologists are in the science of the mind and behavior and such disorders, and Psychiatrists are medical practitioners in the field of the mind, behavior, and such disorders. Psychologists are often who handles therapy, while psychiatrists prescribed my medicine.
And... yea. Chiropractors do a lot of work to an already bad back. Not good work, though, lol.

It might "look" better, but surgery is not a cure.
"The short answer is there is no reliable cure for scoliosis.
Surgery isn't a cure, it's just a fix to try to stop it from getting worse, though sometimes you can get improvement in the curve with surgery you can't really make the curve go away. Also, after surgery you have a metal rod in your back forever."

No fix... yet. We're on the cusp of stem cells, genetic engineering, and 3D printing. It's entirely possible that when the time comes and you need the surgery, the surgery will be to install a new spine instead of scaffolding your old one.
Cross your paws, science might come through.

You never know if someone in the suit has any sort of physical condition that can be worsened by unauthorized touching/hugging/pouncing.
Thankfully I think the fandom as a whole is finally getting it through that hugging without permission is incredibly rude, but I'm seeing an influx of new con-goers that could really use the lesson.

Wow that's pretty bad I kinda know how it is living with problems. I was born with a defective heart valve that got replaced last year and will probably need replacing again in 15-20 years but i'm hoping by then technology will have advanced enough that they won't have to open me up again to do it.
I hope you find some relief and can continue to enjoy your suit.
This is a real issue. My friend had a motorcycle accident and now suffers from lifelong pain. His fursona suit is really cute but he hates wearing him now because, every time he goes out, somebody glomps him and hurts him. He used to love that suit but now all the pain has made him hate his sona.
People need to stop doing this and start asking before they get physical.

This will sound weird, but thank you for posting this and raising awareness. I know a good handful of fursuiters who have back problems as well and have heard horror stories about ribs and spines breaking while performing because people don't know boundaries. The worst that's happened to me was someone grabbing me from behind and carrying me across a parking lot. Not cool.
