yeah its called a Kirin in japanese legend. =) It's more of a scaled, goat like unicorn but still their version of what one is.

actually, kirin aren't japanese -- they're chinese. kirin is the japanese spelling for the quilin, the chinese unicorn which is something of a dragon x deer hybrid.

Both cultures have their own types of unicorn, neither of which have really been linked to one another. The myths are very different between the two cultures and are separate beasts. I have never found any information suggesting the opposite.
Its a cultural anomaly much like the dragon. Most civilizations have a version of it and histories behind them. Though few are directly linked to one another.

Who really knows? Never really hear much on these beasts, rarely ever see information on them in Mythological books. Would love to have some information coming stright from their culture, straight from the horses mouth kinda thing.

I adore Kirins-easily in my top favorite mythical animals.
