If you put your darker color-schemed characters on an even darker background, instead of a light one, they'll stand out more and you'll be able to see their detail better. Surrounding them with white, while providing contrast, has a tendency to overpower and drown them out. ^^
That aside, I love your designs. A mount of this quality would totally get me to play a game all on it's own. XD
