Reminds me of my childhood. I lived in a small town with a beautiful pond in its middle. There were lots of ducks living there as well as two swans. :)

I'm envious of you to be in a place that has or had such birds. I'd love to do live studies with those swans.

LOVE the details around the mouth and eyes.. excellent! DUnno about you, but to me, the thing that makes any portriate is the eyes.. ALLWAYS the eyes..

I wish you could see the original. All of my details are totally lost with this scan. There's more going on than you can see here, unfortunately.

Yeah, when i visited, the pictures you showed me that you had scanned were SO MUCH nicer than what the scanner produced.. You should try applying "screens" to the scans and see if that helps any.. yo uknow.. sheets of white dots.. there might be a setting in your scanner.. I think it's called a "half tone screen".

Swans are beautiful. so are Herons. heh. there you go. a Swan-Heron beauty contest...

I can sure do birds better than horses that's for sure. :D I was rather pleased with this swan, I had a great reference photo to work off of and that makes all the difference in the world really. Too bad much of the very subtle detail is all lost (do to my crappy scanner) there's a lot that you "can't" see.

The eyes on this fellow were a bit of departure for me. I added a bit more detail. Normally you just can't see little, beady, dark bird eyes like that, but the reference I used had "just" enough detail to allow me to go deeper.

I have never seen one alive...or many, mostly starlings or Canadian geese, or gulls

Alas I've never seen one live either. They are very big birds and can be quite aggressive from what I've read. Of course poor slave D can attest, first hand, how cruel and vicious male swans can be.

Im sure he has ^v^! One thing i want to see is a flamingo. Another was a peacock, i saw some a while back :3 i cant remember but i think the male was way more hansom then the female O.O all shiny and colorful
