A lone Deinonychus antirrhopus surveys the floodplain before her as the sun rises on a new Era, the Cretaceous period has begun.
Some paleoart! :D Here is Deinonychus, a relative of Velociraptor. The 'velociraptors' from Jurassic Park have the skull shape of Deinonychus, and the size of Utahraptor. Jurassic Park had hybrid dinosaurs way before D. Rex. ;P Technically, Deinonychus didn't live when the Cretaceous period first began but it lived pretty early in the cretaceous period. (It was a good title...) Here, my Deinonychus is a scout for her pack and is looking for some prey in the floodplains of what-will-one-day-be Montana. I love raptors like Deinonychus and Velociraptor. :3 I wanted to depict a calm, yet elegant Deinonychus that wasn't ripping something apart. XD It still bugs me that some people still see dinosaurs like Deinonychus and Velociraptor as weird scaly lizards. :/ Birds are beautiful, and I want to show deinonychus for what it was, a beautiful and unique bird-like dinosaur.
This isn't a perfect reconstruction, as I'm sure other professional paleontological deconstructionists will notice. X3 But I'm pretty happy with the result! I need to stop using this composition....XD I'm just really drawn to it I guess. This was such a fun piece to work on! I'm very happy with this piece! Coloration is based on that of the Goliath Heron. I'm very happy with the grass and rocks in the foreground. (for once!) I could still nitpick but I'm overall really happy. Critique always welcome!
