On 8 September 2015, this very aircraft was involved in an incident where the left engine caught fire during takeoff. Thankfully, the crew was able to abort the takeoff, and taxi the 777-200ER to a location away from other planes. The evacuation of the wounded bird was a success; all 157 passengers and 13 crew members got out safely.
In the pic, you'll notice that the left engine is completely removed. Also note that two of the right wing spoilers are in the deployed position. You will also notice soot on the trailing edge flaps. To get an idea of the overall damage, here's a link: https://worldairlinenews.files.word.....vecastrolr.jpg
As the title of this image suggests, this aircraft is a write-off. G-VIIO will never be one with the clouds again. :(

Also check out the National Airlines 744F crash report summary a few days ago. Gives an overview of the NTSB report which is quite interesting.

Guys I checked the wikipedia article and the aviation safety network's accident description. The aircraft was substainly damaged, but it was not damaged beyond repair. The aircraft was repaired and on March 24, 2016 it was returned to service. G-VIIO is currently flying from London to Kingston as I post this.
