Falcata updated- Beveled, sanded, hand stoned.
The falcata continues.
I spent the last two days grinding, sanding and hand stoning the bevels to flatten them.
The beast is already sharp enough to demand my respect and careful handling.
Hasn't drawn any blood yet- But I am happy to keep it that way.
I also sunk it two inches into the top edge of a softwood stump we picked up last week with a casual chop...
Took no effort at all.
I begin to see why the ancient writings about this weapon described it as able to take a man's head or limb off at a single stroke.
Fear the Mighty Falcata zombies... It comes for you.

It started with video games, actually.
You need to have huge, exaggerated blades for video games so that the blade is visible at any angle and distance.
Early games suffered from low resolution, so the answer was big, thick blades that did not disappear when turned edge on the camera.
Resolutions are better now, so some sword blades have shrunk back down.
But they also tend to have energy effects. Both for eye candy and to make small, thin blades more visible.
