“Shush Now”
But, I can’t. I cried-I am crying even now. Its boiling inside me.
“You should’t be sad”
Why not? What makes me unfit to cry? What makes this not sad? Are there rules about crying?
“It’s nothing to be sad over”
And why not?! Why should I have to justify why I’m crying? Is crying no longer free? Must we have a proven reason to cry?
"You are too old to be crying”
At what age should I stop crying? Man or Woman, why, as we age should we stop crying? We can still make the tears, why shouldn’t we cry?
“Let someone comfort you”
No! Stop! Don’t handle me like a doll that needs to be fixed. Don’t try to hold me or touch me. I am not yours! These are my tears and they are mine to shed.
“Crying won’t solve anything”
It will solve me! What is inside me, whether it is momentarily or long lasting!
“Stop crying”
Let me cry! By God, let me cry! Let me feel the tears draw from my eyes. Let me scream and wale and shout. Let me slam my fists! Let me sniffle and weep. Let me shiver and clench my teeth.
Whether in my room or in the corner. In a bathroom stall or hallway. On a bus or in my car. In public or solitude. In the shade or the sun. Night or Day. Clothed or naked. LET ME CRY!
