Yeah, I can never do first-come journals with artists that have higher demand. I'm just not online often enough and just too busy with work to catch them in time, or if I do, they fill in nanoseconds before I finish writing the idea. I have to plan with the artists in advance or go on waiting lists/application lists. I just can't compete. XD
I would really appreciate it if you would please reply to this.
I have a suggestion that I've seen other artists use, which will make a lot more people happy without adding any pressure or stress to the artist him/herself. How's about creating a waiting list, a list that has NO limits on how many people can sign up for it. It would be first come, first serve like the commissions themselves. People who either miss out on the open commissions journal or simply want to put their name up for one for whatever reason, would be placed on this list.
When the time comes to open commissions again, then you can go down that list and ask if each person still wishes to get a commission. If they say no or they can't anymore, then simply move to the next person on the list and so on and so forth. This way, no one will have to RUSH to try to get a spot. It's a guaranteed reservation without adding to your own workload at the time.
Now you could make it so that each person can only get one commission from you. Or perhaps you could have it so only people who have never commissioned you before can be on this list, or simply that each person can only be on the list once at any given time (no multiple spots). There are various ways to diversify said list. But the bottom line is, it's at least a way to ensure that no one will ever miss out again.
I look forward to hearing back from you on this idea, and very much hope you'll actually use it. Believe me, you'll be making a lot of latecomers happy.
