Did you use any subsurface scattering in the model? it looked like they used some in the movie on the white part, especially the "fingers".

I used some SSS, but not much, and I couldn't get it to look quite right. SSS is still a bit of an enemy to me.
It's there, but very subtle.

Ah, cool, I used Blender's subsurface scattering on a gps device that I'm making. I think the depth was set too high and it turned out looking like a bar of soap. :P What program did you use to render it?

im guessing that you used a hdri lighting eviroment and used (by the looks of it) 1 light ? if you added 2 more lights about 25% of the first light each and dump a exposure control on the camera i would say you pretty much have a wall-e identical. for even more realism put indirect lighting and photonic lighting on and mess with the settings a bit (not sure if they on or not ^^;)
