This was supposed to be done quite some time ago, it’s finally done.
This is the Mk.2 Mana Pulse Canon, it was designed by Widjet to give non-unicorn ponies the ability to fire offensive and defensive magic flares (Much like the one Twilight fired during the wedding). Primarily it is designed to give a pegasus the capacity to return fire on Gryphon aerial combatants, who are generally equipped with foreleg mounted machine guns. The weapon is carried on the outside of a foreleg (with left and right configurations built for dual carry)
The weapon is powered by a mana crystal contained in a support frame cartridge, which supplies enough energy for between 900 and 3500 shots depending on the power setting. Low power settings mean it can be used as a stun weapon, but at full power it is near guaranteed to be fatal, especially with repeated center of mass hits.
To fire a pegasus simply pulls the equipped foreleg up to actuate the safety lever, and then curls their hoof under to pull the trigger. The weapon only fires in automatic, with a cyclic rate equivalent to 550rpm.
The shroud pictured above the casting rod and outlined around it in the top left image is made of plastic and designed to maintain an aerodynamic profile of the receiver portion of the weapon. In field testing it has proven prone to melting, but only in what Widjet considers “abusive sustained fire”. Despite an updated design existing to remedy the issue, the Equestrian Royal Airforce decided the drag from un-shrouded weapons was negligible, and nearly the entire stock of shrouds was discarded.
The Mk.3 began development after official adoption of the Mk.2 by select special divisions of the ERA, but remains classified.

I'm hoping to draw and post more design stuff soon. I've been pretty distracted from art by other things lately, but I've got my fingers crossed things settle down a bit. I completely forgot to post the gryphon machine gun image here >.-.> I'll have to do that later.
Glad you like my work! ^.-.^
