Erudite. Competent. Volatile: True Facts About Agent Hobbson
If there's one thing that S.3.R.A. agents new to the Felton branch learn within their first days, it's this: Don't piss off the head of the Research division for that particular branch, Special Agent Calvin Hobbson. Of course, most newer agents learn this AFTER they've already pissed him off in one of a number of ways: Removing of any of the dossiers on various Extranatural entities, supernatural phenomena, statistical data, case records, etc. without following the appropriate procedures; damaging aforementioned dossiers prior to returning them; being late in returning them; improper handling of any of the supernatural or extraterrestrial artifacts, tomes, or experimental technologies; accessing any of the Archive vaults without appropriate clearance; making rude or disparaging remarks toward Special Agent in Charge Karen Schlaeger or the hobgoblin, Rhonda Thames, that's on retainer for curating some of the antiquities in the Archive; being a rude prick or dumb asshole… The list can go on for a bit.
What it boils down to is that Agent Hobbson takes pride in his work as a Researcher. He takes his position of authority within S.3.R.A.'s Felton branch and the duties that come with it very seriously, and he has no patience for those who exhibit incompetence in their jobs or willful ignorance regarding standard procedures. And he holds absolutely no quarter with disrespecting Karen, who has always gone to bat for him in his tenure with S.3.R.A. He is very vocal in his opinions regarding these matters, and there is many a junior agent whose left his office numb and shaken to their core after he's reprimanded them.
If an agent does their job and exhibits professionalism and courtesy - or just catches Calvin off the clock - they'll find he's generally a decent guy. A bit loud and easily annoyed, but he also has a strong sense of humor (with friends or closer associates, he's fine with "Calvin and Hobbs" jokes, or "Hobbit" jokes - he's not a terribly tall man at 5'4", and he knows it). He is well educated, taking courses on various matters fairly regularly and going out of his way to research a wide range of esoteric matters. He's extremely well-travelled; prior to injuries that cost him an eye and caused permanent nerve damage to his right knee, he was a field agent and trekked around the world seeking out strange artifacts and obscure literature. If one gets him started on those stories it's hard to get him to stop, but he knows how to spin a good yarn - and it's obvious that he still misses the action.
As to Miss Rhonda Thames? In the Archives, their relationship is (mostly) nothing but professional. Outside it, though… Well, to quote Agent Hobbson the last time someone inquired into it, "That's none of your goddamned business what our relationship is. And I hear you call her a frumpy rat behind my back again, you're on collecting Shoggoth samples for the next month."

KawaiiJumi, still including the introduction to Agent Hobbson! Still not sure how I feel about what I wrote, but it's up, and that means I'm halfway through this batch of head shots. He's looking good, even if he's glowering like there's no tomorrow. That was part of the point... HEY! Anyone who actually checks these things out and reads the descriptions - when I get this colored, what color should his eye patch be? Standard black, white, or something a little different? Not looking for anything crazy, but hey, no reason to play with it!
