Shy. Sheltered. Self-Conscious: True Facts About Rhonda
In regard to Miss Rhonda Thames, Hobgoblin, she is disinclined to say there is anything of interest regarding herself. She is a very modest, easily flustered young woman (well, young for a Hobgoblin anyway - in her late 70s, she's more comparable to human woman in her mid-late 20s), and has trouble finding positive things to say about herself. When asked to talk about herself, she will usually divert the conversation to interesting facts about her heritage, her family, or historical trivia (of which she is a font of)… Often with little self-deprecating notes thrown in.
To say that she has poor self-esteem or self-image issues wouldn't be inaccurate. She lived in relative solitude when she was young, save for a few of her older kin up until the last passed away when she was thirty-five-years old (physically she was barely into her adolescence). Back then she lived under the streets of New York City, the last guardian of an ancient treasure trove of Extranatural knowledge and artifacts collected by a then defunct brotherhood - rarely interacting with other people for certain necessities or (to her great regret in the present day) to slaughter the occasional homeless person for nourishment and to maintain a human appearance. The next year she and her hoard were relocated to Felton, MA. She was placed with a local Strzyga antique dealer, Renate Greene, and supplied with supplements to assist her in looking human (albeit less successfully than actually eating people did), while her collection went into the local branch of the Supernatural Response, Research and Relations Agency's vaults.
She got more exposure to people then, but it was less than positive. Around humans her "age," she got picked on for being ugly and awkward in her interactions with them; and among Extranatural community, Hobgoblins have a (somewhat deserved) bad reputation for being slightly malevolent tricksters that made more than a few folks in the Underground leery of young Rhonda. Add to it that she lost most of her access to the collection that her family had been guarding for generations - her purpose for all her young life - and she was lost, awkward, and lonesome for a long time.
Over forty years later, Rhonda is comparable to a human in their mid-late twenties now, she has made a little progress. She is co-owner of the antique shop with Ms. Greene, and S.3.R.A. contracts to her as a curator for their items of interest - so she does get somewhat regular access to the antiquities that she still considers her charge. She has some friends, and is part of M.E.A. to help with her continuing desire to eat human flesh and her self-image issues- she still has the desire to consume human flesh, wishing to look more like a normal, "attractive" human as opposed to a "dumpy, ugly little freak." She still feels uncomfortable getting out and being social; given the choice, she prefers her nights spent in the comfort of her home, quietly reading, watching old movies, or keeping the books for the shop…
However, she has gone out of her comfort zone to spend time out with Calvin Hobbson, the head of Felton's S.3.R.A.'s Research division. They've found many similar interests, and while Agent Hobbson has a reputation for being abrasive, he has been nothing but sweet, soft spoken and gentlemanly toward her; she enjoys the company, even if some of her support group friends don't get it.
Annnnnd here's head shot number four from the recent batch from
KawaiiJumi, and the last one with a sketch I actually managed to post before she got to the upgrade request. That leaves two newly lined faces that you haven't seen yet, guys! Getting in on the home stretch for these, and shouldn't take more than another day, maybe two, to get them finished off. Still having problems working up the True Facts on these due to that fine line between "informational tidbits" and "here's their life story!" Anyway, here's Rhonda at her most human. Will at some point get art of her when she's significantly less so.,, Also - I'm absolutely dying to get her colored - mostly for her eyes. Them's going to be some gorgeous, huge freaking eyes.
