Indeed they can. One of the fun ways to go about it is simply thinking up mimics of other species of arthropods or even plants.

That is one way and the reason why my all-time favourite fantasy spiders are the Stalagnites from Dungeon Siege - giant cave spiders camouflaged as stalagmites.

Hersilid spiders are quite interesting. They capture their prey by running in circles around it, enveloping it in silk in the process.

They are so cute. I don't understand why movies just have weird spiders with pointy feets and at least 100 billion inaccuracies.

Either because of bad research, because of repeating the mistakes of older movies for stylistic reasons or because dagger feet are easier to make as CGI models or puppets than proper spider feet.

I think its a mix of all of those things. I don't now too much about CGI but I know some things are super difficult to animate.

Pointy stumps would be easier to animate. It doesn't matter at what angle they touch the ground and require less movable parts without having to add and animate the claws and pads.
