"Let's go to the old abandoned mansion on the outskirts of town, she said. It'll be fun, she said."
This was the exact statement that was replaying time and time again through the unicorn's mind as her and Chinook's ordeal unraveled through the night. But to elaborate on their dire situation, it would be best to start at the beginning.
Chinook was always a lass who enjoyed a good bit of juicy gossip from time to time, and when a group inside of a coffee shop going on about an old abandoned mansion filled with ghosts on the edge of town, she just couldn't resist. It smelled like a possible adventure, and considering how boring things have been for her as of late, she needed this. And she knew exactly who to drag into this.
She had recently became aquainted with a unicorn who recently settled into town that went by the name Help Desk, or HD for short. The orange-coloured mare had recently set up shop as a computer maintenance worker, and due to Chinook's "browsing habits", she had become a bit of a regular customer for her. After continued interaction, the two of them slowly began to build a friendship between the two of them.
This friendship of course led Chinook straight to HD's doorstep, asking her to come with her to check this place out. HD was more than reluctant to go initially, but after a few hours of pestering from the energetic antelope, magical equine finally caved in and agreed, if a bit begrudgingly. The two of them took the afternoon to plan, and vacated HD's home in the eening to begin their adventure.
An hour drive and half hour walk later, the two ladies came to the doorstep of a very large, but very decrepit mansion. While HD was held up at the door, the ever-feisty Chinook was more than willing to kick open the door and simply waltz in. With a sigh, her hesitant friend sighed as she followed behind.
A room here, a hallway there, a staircase over yonder.. Nothing interesting. Chinook sighed. So much for an adventure. The only thing the place had was a bunch of dusty furniture. she could've seen this by going into her basement rec room. One more room. That's all she was going to check before giving up. It seemed though that lady luck was on her side though, as in that next room, was a massive walk-in closet filled to the brim with oldschool, classical ballroom gowns. Both she and HD made there way in, the two of them deciding to give a browse through the clothing. to their surprise, it seemed that they were in perfect condition, the test of time hardly doing anything to the silken fabric.
That was enough to give the prongorn lass an idea. She quickly grabbed two dresses, and shoved one in front of HD. She figured it'd be fun to throw them on, continuing their adventures in victorian style. Knowing she had no choice, HD sighed before walking to the other side of the closet. She alled upon her magic to pull a sheet up, giving them both some privacy as they changed.
Fully dressed in their new ensembles, they quickly made their way in front of the closet's mirror to view themselves in their new poofy attire. Chinook decied on a mint-green gown with golden ribbons and a less than modest window for her cleavage, while HD was wearing the gown given to her, it's colours being various hues of purple. While more modest than her antelope compadre, it still bared a bit too much skin than her liking. After getting their gazes in, the two began to make their way to the doorway on the far side of the closet. It was interesting. Why would a closet have two entrances?
Their question was answered when the two made their way into a massive ballroom. Surprisingly, it as well managed to hold strong against time's deterioration. It even still had candalabras surrounding the massive space with candes that hardly had any wax melted from them. with a quick use of magic, HD lit each candle in the room, giving them enough light to see just how large the room was.
They were blown away as to just how monsterous the room was. HD thought she had lit all of the candles, but it seems there was more than just a single floor to the room. Still, it was more than enough for Chinook to get an idea or two. A ballroom was just a fancier way of saying dancefloor, right? Even if there wasn't much adventuring to do, there was still room to goof off.
She began to do exactly that, as she started to bust a move in the mddle of the ballroom floor. To simply say, it wasn't one that worked with the dress, and was more than enough to get a good laugh from her unicorn companion. Unfortunately, said unicorn perhas should have taken the time to finish lighting "all" of the candles in the room.
For in the shadows.. Something was watching...
And so begins Chinook and Help Desk's adventure into a supposedly haunted mansion. Why does it happen to have a full supply of ballgowns, and what could be watching from the shadows? It looks as though our lovely ladies are about to find out! Stay tuned...
