Synopsis: An inflation-loving jackal and his telepathic bat companion, a tank truck full of lighter-than-air gas, and a heavy pallet with cables... need I say more?
I figure a classic inflation story is a good way to break into the FurAffinity community. I wrote this story three and a half years ago.
In designing the characters and setup, I tried to "fix" many of the flaws with inflation plotlines. Inflation is hard to set up against the victim's consent without being exceptionally cruel, so I made J.J. a willing victim. It's hard to hold a conversation when your mouth is occupied by an air hose, which is why Johnny's partner is a telepath. And putting someone back together after they've been reduced to shreds is a pain and impossible to do efficiently and accurately, which is where the jackal's auto-restoration ability came from.
Trivia: When I originally wrote this story, I was under the impression that a given sample of lighter-than-air gas had the same "weight" regardless of its density; that is to say, if you inflated a balloon from a helium tank, the combined weight of the balloon and the tank would never change. I later learned otherwise, but luckily the story still held water.
