I don't really relate to the Phantom anymore, despite loving the movie as much as I always have. But I know someone who pretty much is him. Their words and pain weigh heavy on my heart. I don't go a day without seeing their broken face in my memories, when so long ago we sat there face-to-face and they told me about their suffering, how miserable some aspects of their life are.
They'll never know this, but my heart has been breaking for them every day since. I wish I could save them. When I'm not reliving that day in my thoughts, I see it in my dreams.
But this is the best thing I can do for them, to protect them, and I'll protect them for the rest of my life despite the confessions that rage in my mind just under the surface.
Phantom, even though you'll never see this- you don't deserve this.

Unfortunately most people I meet either aren't aware of the movie/production or simply don't care for any of it- so I've met very few who even liked it enough to start relating to characters. But it's always cool to hear about people who have been touched by the story!
