This is the song that's played while Squall and the group are landing at Dollet during the Seed examination. ^^;; This used to be one of the hardest songs I played, since it involved so many layers...But, some of the songs that I'm doing now make this one pale in comparison. 8D

Starting at about the 0:58 mark it sounds like you've got a melody line assigned to a drum channel (with what sounds like the GM Orchestral kit), and it sounds a bit out of place jumping back and forth between the cymbals, congas, and timpani. Was this intentional or a fluke during the export of the song?
Also, it might help to add some dynamics to your snare rolls, they've got a bit of "machine-gunning" going on.

Well, if that's an actual snare roll sample, it's pretty bad, and I'd suggest just using a single hit sample so you can have more control over each. If it already is just a single hit, you can still make it sound a little better by changing the velocity of each hit, having it decrease with each hit, or starting at a low velocity and having it increase a bit with each hit.
Also, I was listening to the original song last night, and I think I figured out what happened with the melody line being on the drum kit. Patch 48 (49 if they start at 1 instead of 0) is the string ensemble patch on the melodic channels, but the orchestral drum kit on channel 10 (or any other channel assigned to drums, since some programs allow you to set multiple channels as drum channels).

Ugh...I'm sorry I've never replied back to this comment. Guess I didn't really read it all that much...Must have been tired at the time...The timpani, the snare, and the cymbals were all done intentionally, I know it's bad for me to try and copy the song as close as possible, but Nobuo Uematsu is a genius, and I don't like to temper with his work all too much. I tried to make it sound as close to the original as I could...Um, if you don't mind...I'd like to link you to the video of when they were actually landing at Dollet, if you've already played FFVIII, and you know the song...Just ignore me, as I tend to be an idiot sometimes, heeehehe.

Yeah, I know the song, I'm just saying, in your version at about 0:58, the cymbals start going crazy. They match up in time with the melody, and at some points they change to a tambourine or conga drum or timpani, and it just sounds really weird and nonsensical - the tambourine and conga hits are totally random and out of place, as are the low timpani hits, and it gets even weirder after the key change with the addition of the vibraslap.
The thing is, this is the orchestral drum kit that's being used, which is GM patch 48 (or 49 if it goes 1-128 instead of 0-127). Orchestral strings are also GM patch 48, which I think it what was supposed to be playing there, based on the percussion sounds being played, their timing, and where they fit on the scale.
Basically what I'm saying is, open your MIDI file and try changing that track from channel 10 (the GM drum channel) to something else, see if it sounds better. It doesn't matter what, as long as it's not being used by any of your other tracks. Just my $0.02.

I'd love to fix it, but unfortunately the hard drive that I was saving them all under, had been corrupt. (Surprisingly old computer hard drive.) So, yeah, I'd have to redo it all...And I'm a fat, lazy, tired kewn. Maybe I'll build up the strength to do it again one day, but certainly not tonight, haha.
