The Guardians are a self serving bunch under the guise of altruism: these blessed spirits will watch over a person and protect them from harm, but only after setting up the whole sham. They will pull you away from an oncoming car, but only after cutting its brakes in the first place - they will keep your head above water, but only after pushing you into the undercurrent. However, they are very good at keeping their less savory acts a secret, reaping only the title of Guardian Angels.

It's all guts for glory with the Guardians, for every rescue increases their count towards another halo. Purely for bragging rights, of course. Halos range from singular to three.
