This is how I figure Wonder Guard works in this universe. Nina isn’t completely immune to non-super effective attacks, but incredibly resistant. Likewise, super effective moves do a significant amount of damage to her, but don’t always guarantee a one-hit KO (unless she’s far overpowered). That means Sandra or Jordan always need to use discretion when deploying her into battle because she’s got such technical advantages and weaknesses. And what she lacks due to the min/maxxing stats, she makes up for in sheer attack power.
Pitting Matoaka up against an opponent she can’t defeat might seem mean-spirited, but stick with me. It’ll all get explained next week.

true story: one time on pokemon battle revolution, i went up against an ai with a shedinja in their party. now in that game, if you don't know, you pick 3 of your six to fight. so i made sure to pick my espeon with shadow ball and went. fast forward a bit, i get to their second and my espeon dies. I'm all "fuck, hope he didn't pick the shedinja." Kill his second, then his third is....shedinja. None of my other 2 party members have a move that will work. Resign myself to defeat and just try to get it over with quickly.
.....the shedinja's first move it uses is sandstorm. against a metagross. Shedinja is not immune to sandstorm, and instantly dies.
Needless to say i was relieved but damn talk about your dumb ai.

I had a very embarrassing moment where I almost lost to the Ice user in ORAS' Elite Four, where Shedinja and another were the last two in my party. I figured Shedinja could take on the rest of her team, but her walrein shat out Hail on its first turn.My last party member would have gotten rekt by ice types, so i had to drag it out and immediately pop a max revive on my hard hitter.
