Their main purpose is for conventions. You have them hanging off you, to help identify yourself (and your character) to others at a glance.
Plus, like I said, they're awesome. Always fun to have. And about half the artists on here do them, so they're easy enough to find and get.

I did plenty of wandering and non-interacting at my first con, and I still loved it (at the very least there's the Dealer's Den, where one can easily spend every cent he has on art stuff).
Truly, you'll never know if you don't go. Gotta give it a try at least one, see how it goes.

I wouold like go to to one some time and get some art too. I may have been a fur for only 2 years, but I have bee na sucker for good art since I was a kid. I love good art and animation. Love it love it love it. HR Giger is my all time3 favorite artist. OMG! Xenomorph! Spooge!
There are a few good Aliens games, but they are all old. If you ever can get yoru hands on AVP for the Jaguar....it was amazing. It was the first ever game that coudl be considered genuinely frightening. largely because of the atmosphere. When you play as the marines, the aliens are faster than you and the predators are stronger than you, so you are at a distinct disadvantage and you have to work for every kill. The almost total silence on the ship and hte lack of any music really help to draw you i0nto it's world and c reep you the fuck out. It might not hold up well now. I do not know, but it was excellent. AVP on the PC is a totally different game, though still an FPS. IT is great as well, though.
OBsidian is working with Sega on an Aliens RPG <3

The only Alien game I could really get my mitts on and play is the RTS one that came out a few years back (all the others I either don't own the system or it's an FPS PC game, which I'm not good with, as I said). I love RTS games, and playing as one of them seemed fun as hell.
Really need to track that game down *heads to eBay*

That game....IMO..had so much potential to be great but wound up feeling like just wasted potential to me. I mean the sound was absolutely clusterfucked at times. The maps were huge and lots of it was empty space. Unit movement was sloooooooooooooow as hell. It just...it wasn't Starcraft (P.S. the Zerg were based on the Xenomorphs)
EN TARO ADUN!!!!

I was hopelessly addicted to both Diablo and Diablo 2 at points in the past. Amazing games

I used to be an ace with the Starcraft map maker. The hardest thing to do was toi get every single little detail of an RPG working right. You would tell it to display text for all players inv olved and sometiems it woujldn't for no apperent reason. I only created 2 RPGs, but moist oif the other maps I made worked perfectly. I made a battle arena map as well as a kings of survival map and many others. I loved that game

My brother is still very into map making on Starcraft. Of course the types he makes are the weird ones (I forget what they're called, but the ones that lead into stuff like Monopoly and Zombie Mall and whatnot on Battlenet), but he still goes all out on them (and they're a bit harder to make than normal maps, because of all the stuff you have to put in to make it work properly).
Me, I was all about regular multiplayer maps, they were fun to make and I could get nice and detailed in appearances. Man, I love the Starcraft mapmaker (I love being able to make your own stuff in games, and the mapmaker was right at the top of my list), and now I really miss playing that game.

The triggers and whatnot is, basically, a form or programing. I learned it by studying other UMS maps and their triggers and applying what they did to my own creations. IT takes a minimum of weeks to properly make, test and perfect a good UMS map/ You have to make sure it works perfectly in SP before you test it online and that can take a long time. Checking for your own bugs is kind of a pain because you play through the same map over and over again. Alas, I want to be a game developer
I always wanted to play around with the Elder Scrolls construction set. I never got around to it. I miss RPG maker. the first might I picked that up and started designing. I started at somethning like 9 Pm and kept going on and on and on until I looked out the window and went "Holy shit. It's morning"

Yeah, triggers I remember. Basic stuff I could do no problem (unit moves there, then x units appear, x amount of gas is accumulated, etc.), but was too lazy to do anything more.
I still have the first RPG Maker (which I sorta liked more than the later ones; the 2D games just looked better, in my opinion), but I was never very good with it (didn't have an attention span long enough). Thinking of just giving it away now, since I never use it.
