Osiris Badge (FA:United 2015 Commission)
Third commission of my stint at FA:United 2015's Artist Alley comes this piece for
osiristhejackal, one of my economical pencil badges (I seem to be one of the few who offer pencil-only or B/W badges at conventions). He wanted his character done up in the outfit he was wearing as a FAU staffer and judge at the dance competition. I was only happy to oblige--not only was a reference available online, but he was stationed at the dealers room entrance checking badges (artist alley this year was located outside the dealer's room entrance in the hallway), so I had a ready reference for the details of his shirt/vest/jacket combo, not to mention the hat.
Since this was drawn to fit (barely) a standard 4x3 badge holder (no lamination was available at the con) I had to trim it a little too close to the lettering for my liking. In the end I got it in the badge holder, but next time I had to reduce the image size compared to the outline of the badge holder. For display here I cleaned up the backdrop, repositioned the text, fixed minor penciling errors and gaps. For the overall greyscaling I employed a clone brush tool to smooth out the pencil shading and establish definite tones of gray for the various parts of the image.
