One question though: Do you consider Ed "Big Daddy" Roth a furry?

That's so funny! I was just thinking about him the other day and how popular he was back in the 60's when I was a teenager and wondered why you never saw anything like the hotrod monsters he used to draw. It's good to see his legacy lives on!

its because Ed "Big Daddy" Roth passed away 14 years back.


So alot of stuff you see today is done by other very talented artist.

I was aware of his passing. What I meant was that I DON'T see much similar art these days. That was the first I'd seen in years!

Ah, thats cause its still a West Coast thing mostly.

I love seeing Roth inspired artwork.

There is a name I have not heard in years much less seen any artwork. I'm guessing who ever did this artwork styled it after Ed Roth's work. Somewhere in my stuff I have a Rat Fink poster signed by him when he was at one of the Seattle Hotrod shows back in the 80s

I have an original drawing by him when I visited his home back in the mid-80s. There I saw the original Silhouette and Beatnik Bandit parked in his garage.

Now that is something to be remembered.

I don't remember all the cars he had at the shows, there were five as I remember at the last show I went to and a couple of trikes. I had to go look at the photos to remember their names, the Beatnik Bandit was one, Mega Cycle was another, Surfite was there, Druid Princess was there. One of the trikes was the Mail Box, hard to forget that one. Another one was a C cab trike that I don't see in any of the photos on the website.

I remember him being at the hotrod show three years and each year two or three of the cars would be different Beatnik Bandit was the main stay for the shows it seemed.

I forget to thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane caused by your photo. I don't think many people understand what Ed started way back then. Even he was surprised at how things took off.

I had the Oddrod cards and stickers as a kid, wish I still had them.

LOL You too! The cards would be worth a mint today to a collector.

a couple years ago, I think it was 2000 or so, sonmeone sold a set of the stickers via Diamond Distribution; back when they still had a heart for small scale publishers and sellers. they actually delivered to germany in time, and only two of the 78 stickers are missing.

I've done two doodles in that style, one for a friend who used to drive Citroen Visa, another recently for an artist here on FA. not exact copies, but people seem to get the drift. :) it's fun to do actually. no wonder Ed Roth created so many cartoons. :)

RIP ED. his cars were so inspiring. Its why I got into hotrodding.
