"Well it started out I was just getting plastered with my friends at a bar during karaoke night. They got me plastered enough to get up on stage to sing 'Whip It'."
"Any turns out there were some pan-dimensional beings in the audience, and they loved how I sounded, so they convinced me to go with them and sing it to their friend, who turns out really liked the way I sang it too... so he let me crash at his place of the weekend... you know I still don't know what that green meat he had was... but it delicious!"
"Well Monday rolls around and they drop me back off, but they couldn't remember exactly which dimension I was from, and they ended up dropping me off in an Earth that never moved into the Industrial Revolution..."
"So here I am now working as a hired sword... still beats my old office job!"

From a strictly practical standpoint, it's better to have the left shoulder heavily armored, since more fighters are going to be right-handed than left-handed, and so the left shoulder is where you want to lay on the protection to deflect strikes against your neck. A good upsweep at the inner end of the shoulderplate can keep you from getting decapitated.
Of course, the possibility of encountering a left-handed swordsman is reason enough to cover both shoulders. I'M JUST SAYIN'.

And that's how the west was won. The end.
How is it you so easily devise little stories like this to associate with many of your pictures? While I do find myself at a high degree when it comes to writing, I ultimately fall when it comes to art itself. Just how do you strike a balance between these two? It's something I'm trying to attain.

I like to let my mind just wander... it goes to the most interesting places...
Like right now I see a giant octopus sitting atop a castle waiting for the troops to come out, only to whomp them on the head for laughs. Or just flinging them out into the horizon when one lands a mile away crushing another knight just before he was to slay a witch.
As a show of gratitude for inadvertently saving her life the witch grants the knight a wish.
So now whenever the knight is hungry he just snaps his fingers and a naked girl appear offering him a grilled cheese sandwich.
