My second dragon mask. The first one was started without a species in mind and just gradually turned into a dragon the more I spoke with
nephisdragon
I decided to do another dragon as dragon costumes seem to be pretty rare in the fursuit community (not entirely sure why), plus I've really fallen in love with the design Nephis came up with for his character. There are some other reasons, but I won't get into those here just yet.
FYI, the mask's crown slops back a lot less when someone's head is in there. I'm having enough trouble taking pictures of it as is without trying to take them while wearing it (I had to take my lizard's heat lamp and use it as a light source-- my camera was not designed for indoor use so I apologize over the less-than-great image quality).
The eyes are not currently installed (much less finished), so no griping about the unpainted pink area and the fact there is no left eye in yet. I (so far) decided to ditch the resin 3D eye idea, as wonderful as it is, for cost reasons and practicality. I've looked everywhere for a mold that would be the right size and shape, haven't found any so far.
Another reason for choosing another dragon? Fur is expensive. And Nephis lives next to a $2/yard fabric store. Every site on fursuit construction I've seen always stresses the importance of learning on cheaper materials before you dump $100 on good fur, as you stand a very real chance of buggering it all up unless you know what you're doing.
