A few days ago we witnessed a monstrous creature stalk out of the Shift. It bore a disconcertingly long mouth that appeared to stretch down its neck with massive, gnashed teeth. Its expression appeared to almost be set into a permanent grin, most befitting of the beast when it turned its so-called 'face' to the air and then quickly seemed to glance around. However, what we did not expect was for it to wave its massive hand at an unseen being, as though it were beckoning them forth after it had checked the area.
Moments later another entity came into view. It obviously trusted this creature and proved this by gently hugging the beast. To our surprise it did not snap or try to tear them limb from limb in response to such a endearing action. Instead it returned the gesture, careful of the blade that constituted its other limb. Even stranger, it began to speak.
While we could not hear their conversation clearly without getting any closer, we were able to garner enough that its manner of speech was concise and better handled than most in our own society. It was also clearly understood by the one waiting beside, their head bobbing as they listened.
After a few more minutes of a quiet discussion, they both began travelling in the direction of an old tree we had seen on our way to this place. Although I was curious and desired to tail them, my colleagues spoke against it. They feared that while the beast was friendly to its companion, it would be less so towards us in order to protect what we assumed was its charge. I told them it could be as friendly as it presented, for we had misjudged numerous creatures that came from the Shift. As it was, more often than not, the more alarming or ghastly the being, the more friendly it was. Unfortunately, the opposite was typically proven to be true as well, noted when one of our co-workers had been devoured by the most gorgeous of beings.
To say the least they had no such desire to make a mistake like that again.
I adopted this gorgeous fellow from the awesome
DandyDuo! As soon as I saw her, I immediately knew I had to get my hands on her adorable little face. She is the companion to my 'kin, Laharin, who was very loosely described in the above passage. This beautiful creature is always by his side.
Although she may not be capable of flight, she can make huge, bounding leaps and run at incredible speeds in order to keep up. She is also a brilliant swimmer, especially since she is a being of the Shift and does not actually have to breathe or be limited by the typical nature of water.
I have not figured out her name yet, but I greatly look forward to it and exploring some artwork with her and my 'kin! I think it will turn out wonderful and I am so excited to write about them as well!
