especially when it is a really awesome part....
Though all this being said I think I actually did one thing that was a bit more dickish when this happened to me and that was that I just stopped the movie and then continued to watch the movie in a more comfortable room. The really sad thing though is that they didn't notice

Mine isn't a smart phone, and no net connection, no data plan, just calling and texting, and I'm very picky with giving out my number, so unless it's a crappy third party BS telemarketer [how the !@#$ do they get our numbers in the first place?!], it's likely an important reason someone is calling me.
OMG, right!? Not even just with "Movie Nights" either, people will just be on their phones nonstop regardless of what you're supposed to be doing with them. I purposely never got a cellphone because like 99.99% of people who have one, I don't need one, but I see these zombies clicking away on the phones everywhere I go and it drives me insane! I hope someday something happens and all cellphones crash and never come back on. We somehow survived hundreds of years without them, surely we can do it again.
I hate that so much. It makes me really sad, like actually hurts.
Like I understand if it's something everyone's seen before, cuz even I will check my phone now and then when watching something everyone has seen before. But like, trying to show a friend something or if it was supposed to be a night to spend quality time together and all they do is talk to other people on their phone or scroll through Facebook.
It's like, you could at least tell me you're not interested in whatever we're watching :/

I'll admit if there's wifi, I'm probably going to be on my phone a lot.
That doesn't mean I'm not talking to people, or paying attention to the movie.
It just means that I can multi-task, and sometimes I just need a teeny escape because I get SUPER stressed out in social situations.

My cell phone is not more important than watching a movie with my friends.
*turns off movie. . . no one notices. tosses popcorn into the air and watches it fall on everyone. . . no one notices. chloroforms them one by one and turns off their phones and hides them in a kitchen drawer. . . the police are called because everyone on their friends lists notices*

In cases like this, I usually turn off the movie, then turn on the lights, and wander off to the comp to write. Especially if I'm hosting.
If I'm a guest, and the movie's a bore, i comment that it's something I'm not interested in, and simply leave instead of drag out the uncomfortable feeling between myself and the host.

1) This is one of the minor reasons I don't have nor want a cell phone or iFad. (The main reason is that I hate talking on a phone.)
2) This is also one of the minor reasons why I don't do movie nights with other people. (I don't want to risk watching things I don't like.)
3) This is another reason why I don't socialize much. I'm ignored all the time anyway. Why should I attend a social "event" where I'm still ignored?

SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.
Announce as the movie is starting that no cell phones are allowed. If the movie is not being streamed online, TURN OFF YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER UNTIL THE MOVIE IS OVER. If you catch anyone using their phone, CONFISCATE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE.
Maybe your friends might be a little peeved that you actually want them to watch the movie on movie night, but if they're actual friends, they'll understand. if all else fails pelt them with couch cushions to distract them from their phones. x3

Am I the only person who's fine with this? I'm not really social myself, and when I'm visiting my cousin, our idea of hanging out is sitting next to each other on the couch on different electronics. And we're fine with it. It's how we bond.
The only time I find phones to be an issue when with friends is if we're playing DnD and they're getting themselves killed or slowing us down because they were too busy checking their phones to pay attention.

Had this happen to me in my Sci-Fi Club.
I showed off Terminator, the ORIGINAL Terminator, one of my favorite film series, figuring a Science Fiction Club that frequently got into arguments and discussions about everything from cyborgs, the apocalypse, ninjas, pirates, and all that stuff, would be all over it. I was so excited to show it off!
Instead, every single person had their face buried in a laptop or a Magic game. :(
Really felt underappreciated...
Bah!

yeah I getcha.. D: i invite my friends and/or family to a movie i think they'll love and they either talk to themselves in the middle of it, walking off to do other things, go on other electronics, and the most commonly.. falling asleep during the middle of it >.< sometimes snoring louder than the movie playing and i'm like "psst, wake up we're getting to the best part" or "hey could you not snore so loud..? -_-;"
some don't even care enough to go "hey could you pause it for me? i just need to do a few things, i wont be long", i mean i would do that because i'm interested in the movie and don't really wanna miss it, but i might need to use the bathroom or grab more snacks, i love to eat while i watch things i enjoy
i mean the only time i'd go and do other things is because the movie doesn't interest me and i get bored. it's my way of hinting that i don't really like the movie but you can enjoy it if you want to. i mainly do this to boring live action movies as i tend to have more interest in comedy animated movies with epic adventures, i stay and watch through it all if it interests me
