Tea-stained Fox Skull with Turquoise and Copper

This naturally deceased red fox is tea-stained, aka soaked in a mix of black tea and spices that impart a permanent 'ancient' look to the bone while leaving the teeth white. Copper plated wire has been wrapped around the skull prettily, and a polished piece of real indian turquoise is set into the frontals (brow.) This skull is about to go on a sturdy copper chain with latch clasp to make one heck of a dramatic pendant. If this doesn't sell at the event on Sat it will be put up for sale on my Etsy.

May I be so bold as to inquire more in depth on the tea-staining technique, if it's not a family secret or something of that sort? What spices do you use and how exactly?

I'm so sorry that I didn't see this comment until now. =( My bad! It's not a secret as to what I use - loose leaf Darjeeling, saved from my morning tea each day for this very purpose. :) I rebrew the leaves with cinnamon and a pinch of real saffron and let it cool before using it. The skull steeps anywhere from 24 hours to a week depending on how deep I want the hue to be. Sometimes I prop part of the skull out of the stain to darken the color in one area after the initial stain - like on the snout for this skull. The stain goes below the surface and is very permanent.
