One minor correction: The cartoon, "Filmation's Ghostbusters", started in 1986, as a follow-up to a live-action series starring Forrest Tucker (as Kong), Larry Storch (as Spencer) and Bob Burns (as Tracy, the gorilla), which aired in 1975. It wouldn't have been made, but, well...
When the movie, Ghostbusters, took off in 1984, they had a one-off arrangement with Filmation to use the name. This became a problem when the movie franchise wanted to expand into animation, such that Filmation sued. The case was eventually settled out of court, so the movie's cartoon was "The Real Ghostbusters", while Filmation cranked out "Ghostbusters" hoping to capitalize on the name's popularity. (It didn't work out too well. Filmation said afterward that they should have asked for animation rights in the settlement...)
