I have medical conditions that require the use of a highly trained mobility assist and medical alert assistance dog ( service dog ).
My current dog, who is just shy of 2yrs old has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
This means he can no longer work or be a service dog. I need to get a new dog.
I am applying to an organization for a new dog, but the cost to attain the dog and travel to the facility for training is upwards of $5,000 USD.
I am accepting donations to help and will open commissions for art in exchange for aid to this goal.
My PayPal and email if you have any questions or would like to contribute in other ways is:

Thank you!

I know. As much as I have put into him over the time I had him, I could have had the money to get a dog through an organization.
Unfortunately there isn't any treatment that would save Journey's career as a working dog. His hip dysplasia is mild to moderate, and it may stay that way his whole life. I could probably keep him and keep working him, but that's highly unethical and I could never live with myself knowing I was making it worse by doing so. The only way to correct this sort of thing is through surgery. Which normally requires total hip replacement. Even with the surgery, it would never be 100%. Weight bearing and the types of tasks I need in a larger mobility assist dog working full time would be too hard on a dog who had hip replacement. That is why dogs are screened for OFA hip and elbow if they are going to be assistance dogs, especially mobility assist dogs.
Even if I did, that sort of surgery would probably cost just as much if not more than the money I am trying to raise for a new dog.
Life loves to throw these curve balls of irony.

Hes been to walmart a couple of times and done super, He will even tuck himself under the edge of the shelves to stay out of the isle. His only problem has been when people try to pet him he will urinate or in one case, poop. But that was when 2 7-8yrold girls refused to listen to me and kept trying to pet him, literally chasing him around me. I finally screamed at them and picked him up but not before he dropped a turd. It was one of those "Well, My mom said I could pet him." things OOOO I was so pissed.
Hes also been to 2 restaurants and laid quietly on his mat through the entire meals. Hes got the right stuff, he just needs more socialization.

Aww haha awesome! I bet he's adorable when he does.
Good grief! That is no fault of his or yours as far as his reaction. Far better than the alternative of fear reactive snapping or biting. The poor boy was probably scared out of his wits with those little monsters chasing and trying to manhandle him and then you having to scream to stop them. I would have been livid.
That's as bad as a friend of mine who has a SD having her dog get *jumped on* by a child trying to ride her! She's a medium size dog mind you, and this kid comes running out of nowhere and jumps on and starts squeezing and hugging the dog and sends my friend into a panic attack. The child's mother just looks on and snarks when my friend tries to make them stop "oh it's just a dog its not hurtin' nothin'!". Thankfully a manager saw the whole thing and made the mother take her child and leave the store, and then did an overhead page for my friend's husband. I have had kids come up and backtalk me when I tell them no, because "mommy will let me" and I had to tell one lady to take her kid and her self entitlement and leave my presence before I called the cops and reported them for a federal violation of interfering with me and my service dog.
It's sad we have to be overly vigilant in stores and anywhere we go just to avoid stupid things like that and protect our partners.
