Male dominated? sure it isn't 50/ 50 but there are quite a few female characters that mean a lot more than the horrific Krystal. We have: Peach, Rosilina, Samus, Zelda, Sheik, zero suit samus, lucina, Paluntana. Many do NOT enjoy Krystal as she was a character often not needed in the star fox universe as Nintendo just placed her as love interest and that's silly.

When the ratio of male characters to female characters is 4:1, it's male dominated.

And Krystal is not just some flat love interest, if you played Star fox command you'd see Fox and Krystal's relationship is much more realistic than your standard Nintendo fairy tale.

You mean love interest chase of drama? Yeah I played it and did not enjoy it and found it unnecessary and uninspiring. And in a fighting game I say Smash has one of the larger woman cast. If I wanted another woman I'd probably want inkling. Also: All the pokemon characters do not have a defined gender so who knows if there are more ladies.

In that calculation I counted no characters that have a female skin, are gender indeterminate or gender neutral, or are the same character in a different costume (Something I didn't do to exclude ZSS and Sheik)

The exclusively male characters are:
Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, DK, Diddy, Mr Game and Watch, Little Mac, Link, Ganondorf, Toon Link, Pit, Marth, Ike, Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Fox, Falco, Pikachu (Yes it's male you can tell by the tail), Ness, Captain Falcon, Olimar, Shulk, Dark Pit, Pac Man, Mega Man, Sonic, Lucas, Roy, Ryu.

That's 32 vs the Females:
Peach, Rosalina, Zelda, Samus, Palutena, Lucina.
That's 6, 8 if you want to count Zelda and Samus twice.

32:8 = 4:1

Alright though I would count the ones with girl skins as its still playing as a female.

Inklings for smash. Add to the lady list with a GOOD character.

You and I both know The Inkling smash amiibo would be the male one.

They wouldn't need to make an amiibo. Though the developers of Splatoon wanted the girl inkling as the only player before adding the extra option. They still favor the girl inkling and I would assume the girl is more recognizable compared to the boy so I actually think the opposite. I just don't care for gender anyways.

To be blunt, if you're a male who doesn't care about the gender of their video game characters, I'm not sure why you see fit to criticize me for pointing out the lack of female options.

I just find it a cheap shot as a good character is a good character so if they happen to be a female then great.

I wonder if you would feel as indifferent towards gender representation if our situations were reversed. It's easy to say you don't care about gender when male role models to female role models are 4:1 in your favour

I don't care for gender period. Seriously. Gender roles are barbaric to me. Samus is my role model out of nintendo characters.

Krystal IS a good character. It's not her fault Command had shit writing.

Also, I feel obligated to point out that indignantly opposing a character being included in smash doesn't make a lot of sense. You may not like her in star fox but that's a poor reason to prevent people who like her from being able to play her in Smash. She's already written out of star fox zero, you've got exactly what you want. Let the people who love her have her in a different context that doesn't affect star fox canon.

Written out? The game takes place before they even met her.

It's a made up theory by manchildren that Zero's a reboot when realistically it's this all over again, the developers of Zero even confirmed it's set in an alternative universe.

While some can argue about the snes game being retconned, Nintendo actually wants to get that game released again, the problem is they cant because of legal disputes over the FX chip. So technically that reboot theory was never really the case, 64 was just a major upgrade from that, and people nowadays will admit the snes game felt too much like a tech game and was clunky.

It's best not to go by what what remains of the fanbase, because really all they want is something that no longer works whereas people like me want to know more about the series universe while still having everyone, it's why I have this hunch feeling Zero's going to get screwed pretty badly because other than the minority nobody wanted this, and the delay to me doesnt help it either. I've even heard the 3DS version of 64 did pretty bad, and looking this up and comparing, that's pretty funny since people acted like that game was a masterpiece, but it looks like it was never what it was, so I could see why many didn't want another version of it.

Except Smash's Pikachu is clearly a male one, as is Lucario, 85% of Greninjas and Charizards are male, and 75% of Jigglypuffs are female, leaving this particular incarnation of Mewtwo as the only indeterminate one.

I think someone's missing the point that practically all Nintendo games have a female love interest for the male character, and quite frankly Fox does deserve it considering he almost died twice prior to Adventures. I'd rather see that stupid gay theory die off than see people assume it's true still.

If anyone's gay, it's probably Wolf. In Brawl, he's apparently designed with what Japan would consider mild bara design elements.

Command is the WORST example to point to for...anything, really.

I think it worked fine as a game itself, but its writing is absolute trash, ESPECIALLY the portrayal of Krystal. Command is actually what got a lot of closed-minded people hating her so much. Hell, Nintendo even said it got such poor reception that if any future game is made that takes place after Assault, it'll probably just replace Command entirely.

i just put we need a character from the universe that isn't just going to be another fox clone. if they use her staff from SF adventures she's got a whole ton of things she could do unique to her

Then again the raptor frogs in my head cannon converts those they eat into more Yoshi.

As for Krystal, I did like her for the psionic/mage style character (mostly cause I have a love for that melding of Magic and Tech thanks to Warhammer 40K and more recently Numenera) Though personally I'd love to see some love for Golden Sun by finally adding in Issac or his son from Dark Ressurection as a playable character (though not sure if he might end up like another Robin or Swordsman style character)

Though my concern is really what kind of mechanics she can add without becoming something similar to Pauletana, or if we are talking about her from Dinosaur Planet or her incarnation from Assault (where she would be another fox clone)

Simple, have her use all the staff abilities from Adventures and her FS can perhaps involve her personal ship.

Odd to come here and see people who actually care about Krystal as she should have been cared about. I used to be like, the number one Krystal fan until Dwight stole the title with his website. There's also one particular pervy poser who just wants to fanship himself as her husband that doesn't really help things. So it's odd to see people caring so much and not being blind fanboys of the original which, I'll agree with another poster here, the game genre and concept strictly no longer work. Rail shooters are one-dimensional and a resource bloat for development. Meanwhile if they went and designed something like Assault, but fully fleshed out CoD style, they'd have a winner on their hands. Star Fox ~is~ a group of mercenaries, after all.

Ah well, overall that sort of thing is just a pipe dream until Nintendo drops their 'all things made by us are kid-friendly' approach. If there's one series that should be pushed towards older folks, aside from maybe Metroid, Star Fox comes to mind.

(And personally, I'd love to see Adventures 2 and have that game go and explore Krystal's past. Cerenia, please! So much there to have fun with! Gameplay First, Nintendo says. Ugh. It's supposed to all be done together, not Story Last. :/)
