october is also ally cat awareness and spay neuter release month and support and petition for no-kill animal shelters month.
i forget if the actual day is the 11th or the 16th or some other. no animal should be killed just because it isn't "owned" by a human.
least of all feral cats. the idea that its a kindness to kill anything because it isn't claimed as a pet, that is just so completely absurd and insane.
most cats get along by themselves in the wild just as well as any other wild creature, even when they are the offspring of domestic pets.
dogs are another matter. packs of domestic dogs that have gone feral are dangerous and destructive, but feral cats might be as shy and elusive as any other urban wildlife, but they certainly aren't hurting anything, nor is it an unhappy or painful thing for them to be on their own.
too many of them can be a threat to the diversity of other creatures, that's why the spay and neuter and make sure they're not carrying diseases, but there's really no other reason to bother them at all.
if people want to adopt them and they want to be adopted by people that's fine too, but no animal, other then for agricultural purposes, should ever have to be bought, sold and owned.
there's an outfit called ally cat allies, i don't remember how i got on their mailing list, but that's how i know about this.
