Ugh... today during animation I had to sit through the most boring critique. The juniors (I'm a sophomore, but for some reason sophomores are to sit in on the junior critique) were assigned to do an animation in Maya (a computer program used in computer animation) which involved using simple shapes as characters (instead of people, animals, etc.)...
So, imagine sitting through six hours of watching animations involving spheres, cubes, and pyramids/cones bouncing around in pretty environments. And of course people had to spend ten to twenty minutes discussing each film.
It was really obnoxious.
Yay lazy smudging background.
And yes... I SIT LIKE A MAAANNNN!

Ow. I've been there though. I sat through the maya 1 class that happened durring the next semester after I took it (was helping out the teacher) and I wanted to shoot my head out one day. He had them do a project similar to what you described (I'm thanking GOD he didn't do it with my class) and I had to sit through the whole thing as well. I'm hoping the explanations you heard were at least made up semi last minute since those are sometimes interesting. Some of the people I sat through wrote near 3 page long reports on why a pyramid was bouncing up and down.
I'd take a guess that either they were proud of what they accomplished by making these basic shapes move, or they were about to shit their brains out trying to figure out what to say that would make them look good in front of their peers. Either way it would be bound to be a snore fest unless anyone did any cool animations.
Sit like a maaaan, walk like a maaa-*ahem* sorry.
I never got that far in my animation class, for some reason. I probably blanked it out, but I remember we had that one ACE student in our drawing classes. We had to put our art on the wall for critique, and everyone would try to put their own art as FAR away from HIS as possible, so we didn't look like ass-barfingly bad by comparison.

Awwww poor you. :[
Haha, I would've been pretty amused by animated triangles and such.
But 6 hours would probably bore me to tears. X.X
SIT LIKE A MAN?
I do that too. I actually sometimes sit on my knees at school. C:
I'm so rude in such little ways.
I love the serene and a bit old sort of feel in this picture.
I love how Krat looks. With her eyes and teeth like that. So bored. XD
The background's quite nice actually.
It's light so it helps to draw the eyes to the main focus of the picture, which of course is Krat.

i always used to fall asleep in critiques.
especially in computer art classes - with the lights down, all the computers' cooling fans humming, the videos being boring...
ahem.
something seems terribly amusing to me about the facepoint going so much farther than the desk :B in a good way.
and mansitting is the way to go!

Welcome to... film school? o.O
Just wait until they waste thirty minutes doing it to YOUR animation.
Or, in my case, I do it to THEIRS for thirty minutes and get nothing but silence and 'good jobs' in return after mine screens. -.- Oh well, we get out of class quicker that way at least.
Also, YOU BETTER REALLY DRESS THAT WAY! Because it's awesome.

Oh... probably.
Actually, the Sophomores had a similar critique for their animation. It went quicker though, probably because I thought our animations were more interesting and most of the time, I was about to crap my pants from being so nervous about being actually viewing my film and me having to go up there and explain it and such.
I've had that done with my past art projects though. It's so obnoxious and awkward.
AND YES! I DO! THANKS!

Yay for fulfilling your role in life all around then! :D
Yeah, it's really hard at first to get up there though. Then you realize most of the people have so little to actually say (mainly because they're as bored as you are, they just can't shut their mouths. Trust me, I'm that guy) that they couldn't have possibly comprehended everything you did or were trying to do. And then when somebody finally DOES and they have something helpful to say you're more thankful than anything. That was my experience at least.

Yeah... or usually when they say something good about my little film. Of course, it's pretty pathetic because I'm up there all mousy and just "... thanks...".
I suppose my problem is that I always assume people are going to rip my stuff to shreds, especially the upperclassman. Yeah... I have such a cheery outlook towards people.
One thing that's really nice is when people talk and give critiques more on the content and what's actually happening rather than the movement, because at least in animation that most likely means you've got the movement down pretty well.
