Well, you know the expression is "dog"... And there's another pirate expression. "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey." This isn't as dirty as it sounds. In days of yore, cannonballs were stored on brass holders with indentations to keep them from rolling around. These were called "brass monkeys". When it got very cold, then the brass would contract, and all the cannonballs would roll away. Thus, "freeze the balls off a brass monkey."
