SAI feels more like an oekaki program. Are there some secret awesome tools that I'm over looking? 'Cuz this is crap. :(

I imagine not, but I was looking at the marking on the tail. It sort of resembles this sign for libra. It's missing the bottom line under the curved half however. Of course ti could be omega from the Greek alphabet as well.
It's a lazily drawn Omega symbol. ^^ This particular character was created in a laboratory, and the lab's symbol is an Omega symbol with teal roses on it. ^^ It can be seen here:

I happen to love the Omega symbol, but I really don't know why. ^^;

:o well, what are you having trouble with? Because it can basically do what Photoshop can, minus ALOT of features, but made simpler. I prefer to use it for my art, where as photoshop gives me more options for editing and finalising. From the looks of it, you've just used the pencil(thing) tool... To do my (latest) pictures, I use that to do the lineart, then use it to do block colour, and over that I use one of the brushes to shade and add depth... What were you hoping to do? <3
There's no smudge, the closest to it would be the brush on the far right (watercolour) in the menu, if used with the colour set to white. If you want something simular to the brush tool on Photoshop, go to the Airbrush tool, change the Density to 100 and change the edge hardness to whichever works best for you. Personally I find the zooming in, flipping and angle changes to be far easier than photoshop, but that's down to opinion.... Anything else? :D
Can't you only zoom in in like, 25% intervals? D: Or am I not getting that part too well?
I haven't tried messing with the pen settings too much. Maybe I'll dedicate some time to doing just that. I haven't tried the flipping yet, but it looks neat. :o Not as useful when drawing with a tablet pc though. x3 I can just turn the whole laptop when I need a better angle.
I may have more questions later, but it's work time now. :(

Even with a tablet pc, its easier, because you can have any angle with the menu in the same place, and you don't need to physically turn it...
You can zoom in to any %, if you can see the menu with a thumbnail view of your whole canvas, and a small red box where you're actually looking, under that should be two bars: Rotate and Zoom, just grab the tab and move it left or right to zoom in or out, turn clockwise or anticlockwise :D If you can't see that, then I think there's a menu for it... *shrug*

I honestly do believe that after seeing it enough times that Amity's tail there is far.. FAR too large. I don't think I would have said anything unless I wasn't at least halfway certain that it was just about 2/3rds the size of her body and height. Not that there's anything wrong with that...it's just.. I suppose the word I happen to want to use is 'different' or 'unique' as I don't think I've really seen too many people who draw an idea like that. (And it's with those accursed stripes that I can't draw upon anything to save my life...)
Now as I look at this.. I must immediately say that I happen to really like your use of that neon glow effect there. Since it's a soft pink and white color (lavender?) it happens to work with that plum colored background. Sort of a subtle yet effective method of separating the background color from the foreground character's gray. And I found it rather interesting that the gray colors happens to also work with the plum colored background. As that's.. a color I don' think I've really seen people use too often. (I guess that by you being the first to do so, I can consider it being innovative~!)
Moving back onto the character her as spoken about...it's pretty keen how you did the stripes- with no outline to them. It's as if they're to be taken as striped patches of fur that happened to be drawn onto her or just popped up rather than drawn in. Another thing about that? The stripes on the tail happen to look like actual furry stripes and seem to have the bristled fur effect within them to show that it's an actual tail with stripes, rather than incredibly smooth stripes as if there fur has been perfectly combed and was held together by polymer cement. So I will congratulate you for that one~
But...what I happened to find strange were two things in this picture. (Strange in this case is to be read as "unusual to me" mind you.)
The first are the red...markings that you used in specific places. It's..just so odd to me as it's I'm guessing to show.. blush on the cheeks but on the shoulders and knees..I'm not quite sure how it works. It's a nice effect as it happens to add color to those places, but..it's just.. something that I suppose stood out in something of a "I find it pretty yet don't understand it" type of way.
The second..well.. this isn't too difficult, but...is that suppose to be an Omega on her tail? That symbol that's on that magenta colored strip. (And yes, I do believe I have confirmed it to be 'magenta.' And not just 'hot pink.' )
That aside...I firmly believe in all honestly this came out incredible well oh Lolita chan~
...Even if there are points in it that I'm...nearly confused about.
