David Childs setting of a text from the "Song of Solomon" for choir. This is the community choir I conduct! This was our first concert, and my first concert as the music director of a choir. This piece also features a trombone part, aside from the regular piano accompaniment. I think out of the entire program, this piece taught me a lot of lessons. It's a sort of difficult one to conduct because of the dynamic and tempo changes throughout. The middle of it, the all choral part, "Waters can not quench love" is very rubato and presented the most difficult part of the piece to conduct and keep everyone together.
As usual I like to note that I also recorded the concert myself and I am proud of what I was able to do with very simple equipment. Enjoy!
Text:
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is as strong as death.
Many waters can not quench love,
Neither can floods drown it.
Many waters can not quench love,
floods can not drown it.
Waters can not quench love,
Neither can the floods drown it.
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is as strong as death.
