This story details a new aircraft character I am going to start fleshing out.
________________________________________________________________________
Hello, my name is Arox. I am a F-117 Nighthawk. A 'stealth fighter' even though I am a ground attack craft. Yes I am a living aircraft, I've always been that way, so have my sisters and brothers and all other aircraft I have even met.
But I am different from most normal aircraft.
I am blind.
Oh sure I can 'see' with all my instruments, but my eyes do not function. I have been told their area beautiful deep blue, and that they wish they could have such great color int heir eyes. I am grateful that my eyes do not show signs of damage or blindness really. I've been told by my fellow nighthawks that the actually seem to focus on them when they talk. Not well, but well enough to fool a tiny human, or someone who doesn't know me.
being blinded is not an automatic means to be dismantled or dismissed from service, after all the pilots we fly with usually take control, but being blind from my 'birth?' they, being the United States Air Force would of definitely never accepted, and before I even knew what life is, I would of been taken apart and built again into a different Nighthawk, hopefully one without flaws.
But early on I realized being blind would not help me live a life I wanted, so I pretend to see, using my other senses to perceive the world around me. I can smell different items, hear and locate things and people while talking and feel the air and ground around me.
Now I do fly blind, and most of the time I do let my pilot handle me. But I can fly myself. I have learned every air current, every rock, pebble, crack and bump of the runway I always launch from. I always make sure to know the weather, hour-by-hour if possible, when missions are coming up. I've learned to cope.
It is a constant struggle to keep it hidden. To make sure I am not laid aside for just because my eyes do not work. I am meant to be in the sky, attacking the enemy. Every day I hope my ruse won't be discovered.
As large and deadly as I am.
I am scared.
I know I cannot hide it forever, not matter how hard I try.
I just hope that day is far off.
I am Arox, I am a blind Nighthawk, and this is my secret
