Engreca, the big momma loving on her tiny cubs <3
Hey folks, I am doing an Iron artist this month so if you are curious on getting quick sketches like these, head on over to [PLACEHOLDER JOURNAL LINK :U].
Engreca, in the midst of catching a booming yawn in her throat, seized up upon the pile of furs she found herself. The grogginess of sleep kept her mind swimming and dulled, half baked thoughts filling her skull, time having lost all relevance when she found herself in such comfort. It wasn’t often that she was graced with clean furs and a roof over her head, but she was vaguely aware there was a reason for this. Thus, she kept still and kept her tired gaze studying the ceiling above her, tracing each and every rafter with a imaginary line. Merely to keep herself busy… until she felt the shifting of bodies against her.
There was two, in fact, though they were nothing of her size, she remembered. Engreca was certain she wouldn’t appreciate a full grown charr lying atop her chest, so she swiftly dismissed the idea and continued to prod at her thoughts for the truth. It didn’t take long, and her eyes widened when she realized just how delicate a situation she found herself in. Lowering her gaze, Engreca was greeted with the sight of two snoozing cubs.
One was sprawled across the mother’s chest, nuzzling into her fur with fragile paws grasping for the heat her body radiated. This was the girl of the two newborn, who was sleek in frame and short of fur. Spots danced across the pattern of her coat, as well as splashes of color that raced down the ends of her tail and the tips of her nose. The second, the boy, was larger than his sister, though his frame held a distinct softness like his mother who he curled against beneath the protection of her arm she had wrapped around him. His fur was long and nearly silky with his dam’s care, faded stripes tracing his form and decorating his features.
These two filled Engreca with a sense of wonder and dread, a mixed sensation she couldn’t quite describe. Part of her was fascinated that she brought these two beautiful lives into the world, giving her purpose and determination. Another was terrified, fearful of what the very world she brought them into would bring down upon her little sanctuary, shattering the fragile life Engreca had finally managed to create for herself.
All in all, she managed a soft smile, raising a hand to run her knuckles through her daughter’s mane, while pressing her on against her side protectively. These were thoughts she refused to linger upon, not while a greater doom was hanging over her head.
Now-a-days, there was nothing Engreca feared more than waking a hungry cub.
