First kind of record ever offered to the public!
This is a very rare ( extremely breakable ) Edison brown wax cylinder from 1894.
The record announces its self ( the first words that are played at the start that identafie the recording ) are " The anvil chorus played by the New York grand concert band. Made for the Edison phonograph works.
Fewer then 25000 of these where made ( brown wax records not just this title ). Now I know that may sound like alot but take into account that these are made of bees wax and it has been 110 years sence they where ever made.

I saw in a YouTube video, a man holding a cylinder on a talk show and saying "This is the only copy known to exist" -
and right after, it exploded in his hand littering the floor with pieces.
Even now I wonder -was this a publicity stunt, or was this a tragic happenstance ? I can only hope that a digital recording of the record's sound had been made. It is very hard to mend a broken cylinder, to get grooves properly aligned ... and this cylinder exploded into a lot of dust and bits.
You are NOT going to go to the average flea market to find cylinder records (last made 1927) or a cylinder player.
