Sketch commission for 
aidangull, of his Japanese Crane character, Yuriko.
I know he was probably expecting a very cartoony rendition of his character, but felt like playing with a bit of life drawing. I recently began attending LifeDrawing again [work is holding free studio on Weds], and I was bitten by the bug.
Since I simply cannot give just a "sketch" without SOME kind of flare, I have to do something unique- and added a dab of colour and the process shots to the top, so it can be viewed like an overall process piece.
This will probably be a style I'll be dabbing in a lot more often as well. While digital brushes cannot mimic my conte, I want to utilize the colour aspect more- see if I can merge some traditional concepts with the digital execution.

Now that is a pretty cool take on her. The more realistic aspect is an interesting change, for sure. And just love the sitting pose and kimono, too. This actually reminds me a lot of some of the Japanese wood block prints, where the lines and just a few splashes of color convey the whole picture.
Glad you took this route with the pic. I like it whenever artists try different methods with my characters. Makes for really great variety. Thank yo so much for this, it is really amazing. And hope you are getting close to your goal. ^v^
